WHEN YOU ARE READING PAGES, REMEMBER

Headlines must have a subject AND a verb. They must also be five words minimum.

Make sure headlines reflect the story. If the headline mentions professors, but professors aren’t quoted until the end, it’s a bad headline.

Don’t use the word “and” in a headline, use commas instead, unless it’s a proper name.

Only use single quotes in a headline.

Make sure break out quotes have the person’s title, followed by their name.

Make sure there are no oxford commas.

Does this sound like someone’s opinion? If so, take it out.

Make sure ledes aren’t boring (“This meeting happened” is a bad lede)

Make sure the jumps match.
