It\u2019s the first graf of a story; and is the determining factor of whether or not a reader will continue reading. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A good lede is engaging and compelling. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A good news lede must: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Get to the main point quickly. Attention spans are shorter and shorter. Readers want their news, and they want it now. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be engaging<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be 35 words or less. Remember: Concise is nice. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, what goes in a lede?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember the 5 \u201cW\u2019s\u201d and the \u201cH\u201d? (Who, What, Where, When Why and How) Try to hit at least 3 of these in the lede!! But more importantly SO WHAT?
